THINK
Several years ago I decided to start a “Blog” to maintain contact with our church members and to share information. I chose to call it “THINK ABOUT IT”. I did so for what I believe is a good reason. Since our thoughts affect our attitude and actions it’s crucial that we think right. That’s not as easy as it sounds. Due to modern day technology, the liberal media, corrupt government, progressive universities, etc there is a lot of confusion. We are bombarded with lies and it is crucial that we focus on the facts.
The world is in a mess because the majority refuse to think intelligently. Some won’t quit talking long enough to simply think. Others are so preoccupied with entertainment, recreation, etc, that they don’t take time to just sit and think. In their mind that would be boring or a waste of time.
I’ve often said, the most important piece of furniture might be a rocking chair or porch swing. You almost never see folks just sitting on their porch anymore. Seems that everyone is either on their phone or computer, or glued to the TV, or attending some form of entertainment. Thinking is a lost art today. If you are cutting timber with an axe it is not a waste of time to stop and sharpen the axe. Nor are you wasting time when you set aside time to read God’s Word and meditate on it.
The best kind of thinking is meditation in God’s Word, but that’s rare today. In this fast pace rat race most church members fail to soak their soul in the great truths of God’s word. They are too busy for the Bible. So they starve themselves spiritually- evidently unaware of the costly consequences. There is no Christian on earth who can neglect God’s Word and not be the worse for it.
Let me make a suggestion. Everyday, set aside some time to sit in a comfortable place with your Bible, notepad, and pen. Pray and read God’s word slowly, weighing every word and phrase, and jotting down your thoughts for future reference. Without that discipline in your life your spiritual growth will be stuck on stunted. And that will rob you of the ability to resist temptation, endure trials, discern the truth, and avoid troubles. So , again I want to encourage you to Think About It! – HDS
