MEMORY
I came across the story, about a man who was slowly losing his memory. After a lengthy examination, the doctor said that a risky operation on his brain might reverse his condition and restore his memory. However, the surgery would be so delicate that a nerve could be severed, causing total blindness.
The surgeon asked, “So, which would you rather have, your sight or your memory?” The man pondered the question for a while and replied, “My sight, because I would rather see where I am going than remember where I have been.”
The preacher who posted that story agreed with the man, that sight is better than memory. I disagree! I could still serve God without my sight, but without my memory I couldn’t function- neither could you. Without a memory your mind would be blank. Without a memory we could not even know ourselves. We would exist and experience sensations, but not know what we did or need to do.
Not only is that true of individuals it’s true of churches. If we forget who we are, why we’re here, and where we’re going, we are going under!
God created man with the ability to remember, but we must use it lest we forget. We need to make it a point to reflect on what God has done, what He demands, and what He desires. Doing so will affect our attitude and actions. Remembering His goodness and grace is cause for celebration. Let us then do our best to glorify Him through praise and thanksgiving.
