WORSHIP
Several years ago A..W. Tozer wrote a book entitled “Worship- The Missing Jewel of the Evangelical Church”. I mention that because, sadly it’s true that many have lost the true meaning of worship. While many claim to worship God, most can’t even define the word. And, more than anyone else, pastors are to blame. This failure isn’t due to a lack of information. The word “worship” in its various forms is used nearly 200 times in the Bible. It seems that we’ve become so familiar with the word that we’ve lost sight of its real meaning.
Churches have classes on teaching people how to study, how to witness, how to raise children, how to restore relationships, etc., but they are silent about the subject of worship. Obviously they do not see it as our top priority.
Fact is, worship is the springboard for service, the motivation for ministry, and the road to revival. Until we humbly worship the One who is holy and worthy of the worship of all humanity we will never have a spiritual awakening. Nothing is more significant than worship.
Someone said, “To worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, to devote the will to the purpose of God”.
