HELP FOR THE HARVEST
“Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” Matthew 9:37-38
It should be crystal clear that the Lord is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance “. It is due to that fact that God sent His Son, who sacrificed His life that we might be saved. And that is the good news that sinners must hear to be saved.
The question is, “How shall fallen man hear the gospel?” E.M. Bounds said, “God alone can save the world, but God cannot save the world alone”. Think about that. How shall God communicate the gospel to man? Being God, He could have written it in the sky, carved it on the mountains, given a voice to the rushing water, or even enabled woodpeckers to tap it out on the trees. But He didn’t use any of these means.
God chose to use man to reach man with the gospel. As Jesus said, “ “As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.” John 17:18 .
Herein we see the greatness of Christ’s love. He sends His dear servants into the cruel world with the gospel — knowing it would subject them to hardships, suffering, and even death in some cases. God sent His Son for us and the Son sends His servants into the harvest fields.
Have you ever thought about what a precious privilege it is for us to be entrusted with the only message that is able to save souls. The need is great and we need to go, but we also need to pray that the Lord will send others. Were we to pray as we should I believe we would see more men called to preach, and more church members involved in outreach ministries- doing their best to reach others. Have ever prayed that our young men, perhaps your own son, would surrender their lives to preach God’s Word?Have you set a good example when it comes to witnessing for Christ? Will you commit yourself to the ministry of prayer?- HDS
