“Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the the law of the LORD.”(Psalm 119:1)
“Blessed”—what a wonderful word! This is what most people want, but what few find. This is a word of exclamation. The Psalmist speaks with joyous excitment. His religion affects his heart as well as his head and hands. For him it’s not just a matter of knowing and doing, there are feelings involved.
“are the undefiled in the way“. This is the grounds of their blessedness. They are undefiled and therefore blessed. They are undefiled because they are “in the way”—the right way, God’s way. They seek His glory, rather than their gratification.
“who walk in the law of the LORD.” This describes “the way” of which he speaks. It is the way of the Lord. Those who walk in the way follow the law of the God. They live by God’s rules, not their own reasoning. For them the way of righteousness is not out of their way. They realize that God’s way is the best way as well as the right way. It is the way of blessedness. So, which way are you going? It makes a difference. You can walk in the way of the world and be miserable, or you can walk in the way of the Lord and be blessed. The choice is up to you.
